Job Description: This staff member is part of a 7-person Youth Services Department that will be responsible for planning and presenting educational and enriching early literacy programs for children birth through age 5, their families, educators, and caregivers. Other duties include coordinating early literacy services and resources, creating creative and engaging in-house play experiences, regularly working the information desk providing customer service and readers advisory, participating in collection maintenance, and other duties as assigned. An empathetic approach to customer service is highly desired.
Hours: Part-time, non-exempt (30 hours/week), with an ability to be flexible. This individual will be working morning, evening, and weekend shifts, based on department needs. Tentative schedule includes Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 9 am to 5 pm, Wednesday evenings 12 pm to 8 pm, and the 2nd Saturdays of the month 9 am to 5 pm. Additional Saturdays may be periodically required.
Requirements: Working towards a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education or relevant experience with at least two years experience working with children, especially in the birth through age 5 range. Knowledge of early literacy practices and specific child development stages for birth through age 5 is required. Excellent people skills is a must, as is a high tolerance when assisting the public of all ages. Previous library experience is highly desirable. Ideal candidate will have a dedication to intellectual freedom and intellectual curiosity and be energetic, resourceful, tactful, and good-humored.
Salary: $20-25/hr DOQ
