Heideman Community Garden
UPDATE 4/20/24: All the garden beds have been claimed.
Crete Public Library District has established the Heideman Pavilion & Community Garden in honor of Jan Heideman, an avid library user and supporter whose generous bequest made this project possible. The raised garden beds are for recreational gardening by individuals and groups.
Please read the following information and direct any questions to the 2024 Garden Coordinators: Chris LeVault, clevault@cretelibrary.org and Tiffany Amschl, tamschl@cretelibrary.org.
The Garden Space
A community garden means many things to many people. For some, a community garden is a place to grow food, flowers, and herbs in the company of friends and neighbors. For others, it’s a place to reconnect with nature or get physical exercise. Yet others use community gardens simply because they lack adequate space to have a garden at their house or apartment.
The Library’s Community Garden is located on the north side of the building. Active gardening will take place May 6—November 1, 2024. The Garden area will be locked except when in use. Gardeners will have the code to the lock. We recommend accessing the beds from dawn to dusk.
For more details, read the Heideman Community Garden Guidelines. Each Gardener accepted will receive a Welcome Packet with gardening tips and more information.
