Book a Librarian
Need a little extra help with a specific topic? The Book a Librarian service allows you to request one-on-one assistance from a Crete Public Library librarian.
These sessions last approx. 30-45 minutes and may be scheduled no more than twice a month.
To book an appointment, please call the Library at 708-672-8017. You may also make an appointment in person at the Information Desk.
Things we can assist you with include:

- Using Axis360, Overdrive & Hoopla for ebooks & audiobooks.
- Using Hoopla & Kanopy for digital movies, tv shows.
- Placing holds, searching for items, looking for your checkouts, and reading your history using our catalog.
- Accessing and using library databases, including Ancestory.com.
- Using basic social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and/or Instagram.
- Basic help with sending and receiving emails.
- Basic help using any of the Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Publisher).
- Basic help with Android and Apple phones (setting up phone, accessing email, finding apps).
We cannot help with…
- Fix hardware issues for your laptop, tablet, or phone.
- Removing viruses or attempting to troubleshoot malware issues.
- Installing and running different software.
- Making any physical repairs to your device.
- Offer medical, legal, business, or financial advice, though we can assist with finding reputable sources that can provide answers to these questions.
- Proofread documents or provide typing services.
- We only offer very limited assistance with completing online federal, state, or local government forms or applications, such as but not limited to taxes, Firearm Owner Identification card (FOID), social security, passports, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly LINK card), or license plate discounts. In general, staff can assist patrons with navigating such sites, but cannot be responsible for actually filling in the information.
