1,000 Books Signup 1,000 Books Logbook

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is designed to help parents prepare their children for one of life’s biggest milestones: kindergarten. An excellent way to get your child ready to learn is to read to them. Any child from birth to entering kindergarten can participate in this self-paced early literacy program.

Sign-up online or at the Youth Services desk and receive your logbook to keep track of the number of books you read. Repetition is fine, so feel free to read the same title again and again. Books you hear at storytime count too!

When you finish 100 books, bring your logbook back to receive a new one for the next 100. Keep repeating the process, picking up sheets for your next 100 books. You will receive a prize for every 100 logged books. To complete the program, finish 10 logbooks for a total of 1000
books by the time your child starts kindergarten.

100 Books Before College is a reading incentive program for middle and high schoolers. Reading improves your vocabulary and test scores. Plus, reading prepares you for life after high school while helping you become a more creative, open-minded person. A valid public library card to any Illinois library is all that is needed to enroll in the program. You can read any book you want. Audiobooks, graphic novels, and manga count also. However, we encourage all readers to read something that they normally would not read, such as a different genre or something higher in reading level. We also provide a recommending reading list.
