Youth Services Reading Recommendations: Birth Through 6 Years Old

If you’re struggling to figure out what to read to your child next, let your librarians suggest books based on your interests. Librarians have many resources to provide reading recommendations (called “readers’ advisory” in library jargon).

Fill out this form and get personalized book recommendations from one of our Youth Services librarians!

How does it work?

  • Fill out the form below to give us a little information about your child’s reading tastes.
  • Your personal librarian will assemble a list of book titles and authors based on the information you provide.
  • You will receive a list of recommendations via email within 5-7 business days.
  • If you want to try one of the recommendations, let us know and we’ll reserve it for you! You’ll be notified when it’s ready for pickup.

If you’d rather search on your own, the Library offers access to NoveList K-8, a database that provides summaries and reviews for all types of books, as well as “read-alike” and series lists. You will need your Crete library card number and PIN to access NoveList K-8.

If you’re looking for material for your child in 2nd to 6th grade, please visit this form.

Recommendations are made based on the answers provided in the form. Satisfaction will, of course, vary. If you’d like different recommendations, let us know what you liked or didn’t like on your personalized list, and we’ll provide new suggestions. You can email us at cpldys@cretelibrary.org or call 708-672-8017.
