Ms. Michelle is the Youth Services Manager of the Crete Public Library. In addition to her Bachelor’s of Science in Education, she also holds a Master’s in Library and Information Science. As the Youth Services Manager, Ms. Michelle is responsible for ordering books and materials; hiring and managing staff; and organizing, scheduling, and delegating events and projects in the library. Some of her favorite things about the library are the amazing team of staff members, working with the public, finding the right book for the right reader, and providing great resources that benefit the community. Ms. Michelle always loves a good scary story, especially the Lockwood and Co. series by Jonathan Stroud. Mac Barnett, Dan Santat, Amy Krouse Rosenthal, or Mo Willems are her go-to for picture books
Ms. April has a Bachelor’s of Science in Art Education and a Master’s of Art in English. Following her time teaching, during which she worked with a range of students from kindergarten all the way to college-level, she brought her experience to the library. As the Outreach and School Liaison for the Crete area, Ms. April presents Book Jams and storytimes to public and private schools as well as to daycares and businesses in Crete. Ms. April enjoys the challenge of hunting down the perfect book for a research project or helping a patron find their own bliss in a book. Ms. April loves picture books, science fiction, and new books.
Youth Services Assistant
Ms. Bethann has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and taught third grade before starting as a Youth Services Assistant. In addition to running storytimes, craft workshops, and themed art programs, Ms. Bethann also assists patrons with reference questions and presents book talks at local schools. She helps to build and design kits, such as our Storytime-To-Go Kits, as well. Ms. Bethann’s favorite parts of her job are the people she gets to work with and the children she gets to help. Though Ms. Bethann loves children’s books of all kinds, her favorite genre is realistic fiction.
After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Education and Leadership and teaching primary grades for eighteen years, Ms. Judy joined the Youth Services team as an Assistant Librarian. Not only does she run programs and storytimes, Ms. Judy also assists patrons with reference questions. Additionally, she has been instrumental in developing Early Literacy Kits and our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. The children she gets to work with and her coworkers are Ms. Judy’s favorite parts of working at the library. While she has too many favorite books to choose from, Ms. Judy always loves a good mystery.
Youth Services Assistant
As a Youth Services Assistant for twenty years and counting, Ms. Kathy has a passion for children’s literature. In addition to planning programs and assisting patrons with reference questions, she also implements collection development and inventory and oversees the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Since books can help children deal with difficult situations in their lives, Ms. Kathy believes there is no better part of her job than finding the right book for the right child. Ms. Kathy loves the books themselves and feels that children’s literature just keeps getting better.
Before coming to the Crete Public Library as the STEAM Assistant, Ms. Stuti studied chemistry and English and facilitated science projects at the Museum of Science and Industry. Now, she creates and runs children’s STEAM programs that explore the world through the joint lenses of science and art. One of her favorite aspects of her position in Youth Services is incorporating play with education. While she enjoys reading across genres, two of Ms. Stuti’s current favorite titles are The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud and Pie in the Sky by Remy Lai.
