Join our enthusiastic, patron-focused staff in a beautiful facility in this pleasant south suburban community (population served 18,000).

Job Description: This staff member is part of a 7-person Youth Services Department and provides all aspects of reference services and reader’s advisory with an emphasis on STEAM programming for patrons birth through sixth grade This staff member will also assist patrons and staff with various forms of technology. Additional responsibilities include creating program and teacher guides as needed, promoting library services and programs, and designing and creating bulletin boards, displays, and booklists.

Hours: Part-time, non-exempt (26 hours/week), with an ability to be flexible. This includes working multiple evening and weekend shifts, based on department needs. Tentative schedule includes Monday – Thursday evenings, and one Saturday a month.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in education or in a related STEAM field and at least two year experience working with children. Knowledge of trends in the STEAM fields, technology, and services to children is highly desirable. Excellent people skills and a commitment to great customer service is a must. Excellent presentation and writing skills and ability to adapt programming for various age groups is required. A high level of proficiency with traditional software/technology and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies are also necessary. Ideal candidate will have a dedication to intellectual freedom and intellectual curiosity and be energetic, resourceful, tactful, and good-humored. Must be able to work multiple assigned mornings, evenings and weekends.

Salary: $18.50/hr DOQ
