The Crete Public Library
is pleased to offer
Wireless Internet Access to our patrons!
What is wireless Internet access?
Wireless Internet access uses radio frequency signals to exchange
information between your computer and the Internet. No cables are
required
Wireless Internet Access allows library patrons to bring in their own
laptop computers and get access to the Internet. Now available in all
parts of the library!
What will I need?
The Crete Public Library District uses the Wi-Fi standard (also known as
IEEE 802.11b).
You will need a portable laptop computer with a standard wireless
network interface (NIC) card, one that is compatible with the Wi-Fi
standards called “802.11a” or “802.11b”.
Most Wi-Fi equipment will be compatible. However, the library system can
make no guarantees as to compatibility of your equipment with the
library's network. Consult your laptop manual for specifications.
How do I use wireless at the
library?
If you are not familiar with computers or networking, we recommend
bringing someone with you who can help you configure your laptop.
Everyone’s computer is different and you are responsible for configuring
your own equipment.
After your laptop is configured, it should sense the wireless network as
soon as you turn it on. If you don’t get a response within 2-3 minutes,
please reboot your laptop and try again.
Printers are not part of the Crete Public Library’s Wi-Fi “Hot Spot”.
If you need to print, either save it to print at home or save the work
to disk, then login to a workstation and send print jobs to a printer.
Will I need any special settings or passwords to connect?
No, the library's Wi-Fi “Hot Spot” is open to all visitors.
No special encryption settings, user names, library cards nor passwords
are required.
If you changed your laptop’s configuration to make it work in the
library, remember to change it back when you are at home or at work.
The Crete Public Library cannot be responsible for any changes you
make to your computer's settings nor for any loss of information or
damage your laptop that might result from using the library’s Wi-Fi
network.
Patrons using wireless access will adhere to the Crete Public
Library’s Internet Policy
Examples of unacceptable use include:
Use which violates State or Federal Law
Use which results in the harassment of others
Violation of the library’s security system
Violation of licensing agreements or copyright laws
