You are now
able to interact with a Reference Librarian 24 hours a day/7 days a week through a service provided by the Illinois State Library called AskAway Illinois. AskAway is an online reference service that opens the vast resources of Illinois’s libraries to all residents, no matter when they need information. The AskAway answering service is staffed by the 24/7 Reference Consortium, a group of hundreds of librarians across the country who work together to provide this service. Local Illinois librarians contribute time to the consortium and local residents benefit from the expanded service. Starting in January, you can access the service by clicking on the AskAway icon on the Crete Public Library’s website (www.cretelibrary.org), and you can choose to interact either with an emailed question that will be answered within 48 hours or through a real-time instant messaging session.

Due to many requests, we have also added to our collection the New York Times Book Review and a new magazine called Bookmarks, which reviews new books which might be of interest to our readers. More magazines to come soon. Leave your suggestions at the Reference Desk!

In case you didn’t know, you can now pay for your fines and lost books online through the SWAN system's Ecommerce service. Login to your account on SWAN (the online catalog) from any Web accessible computer and use your credit card to pay your account. Sorry, debit cards are not accepted at this time.

We are increasing our CD audiobook collection, especially our unabridged selection since more patrons seem to prefer those.

The circulation department would like to remind you:
When renewing online, please check the status to make sure that the item renewed and confirm the new due date. NOT ALL ITEMS ARE RENEWABLE.

A complete listing of our DVD collection (printable view) is now available on the adult services page.

Check out the Crete Area Chamber of Commerce's kiosk  in the library lobby. Sponsored by First United Bank with the help of the Crete Library Foundation and the Chamber, the kiosk promotes local Chamber member's businesses and area events.

NEWS FROM THE CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT

Brookfield Zoo Passes: Patrons can now check out zoo passes that allow 4 free admissions to the zoo. Parking, however, is not included. There is a $25 deposit required to check out the passes, which is refunded when the pass is returned. The passes check out for four days, and each family is allowed only one pass.

Interlibrary Loan Reminder: When you check out items borrowed from other libraries, which have a yellow (or sometimes white) band on them, please do not remove the band, and remember to return all packaging. There may be a charge for missing packaging.
