United States Census 2010
The Illinois Library Association (ILA) has become an official 2010 Census Partner, working with the Census Bureau to promote the value of complete census data and to create a positive impact on the questionnaire response rate. The Crete Public Library District is supporting the Village of Crete and Crete Township in their efforts to promote and achieve an accurate 2010 Census count for our community.
Census forms will be delivered or mailed to households in March 2010. The 2010 Census form will be one of the shortest census forms in history and will ask only 10 questions and take about 10 minutes to complete. Households should complete and mail back their forms upon receipt. (Census workers will visit households that do not return forms to take a count in person.)
Participation in the census is important, since census data directly affect how more than $400 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to communities for neighborhood improvements, education, public health, transportation and much more. It is also used to apportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and to define representation in state and local government. For the library district, an accurate population count determines how much state Per Capita funding it will receive!
