"The only words that ever satisfied me as describing Nature are the terms used in fairy books, charm, spell, enchantment. They express the arbitrariness of the fact and its mystery."

—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936) British writer, critic

The Crete Public Library District is supported through local property taxes, but it is through the generous donations from individuals and organizations that the library provides many of its extra services and materials. There are a number of ways to make a donation to the Crete Public Library District and its supporting organizations.

GENERAL DONATIONS may be made directly to the Crete Public Library District.  Donors may determine an area of interest, or if they would like to support either adult or children’s services. Donation Form

MEMORIALS:  Books, movies, even magazine subscriptions may be purchased for the library’s collection in memory or in honor of a loved one.  Donors may either designate a dollar amount, recommend a specific title or suggest a field of interest and the library will find something appropriate. Either way, a memorial plaque will be placed on the item and the family of the individual will be notified of the gift. Memorial Donation Form

CRETE LIBRARY FOUNDATION

Donations may also be made to the Crete Library Foundation (501 c3).  The Foundation provides funds for collection development, technology and equipment.  They are the major support for the library’s Millennium Movie Collection, an in-depth collection of award-winning classic and contemporary movies on DVD. Movie Order Form

They have also funded library landscaping through their Commemorative Gardens project.  Engraved garden pavers may be purchased in memory or in honor of someone and will be placed by the library’s front entrance. Paver Order Form

FRIENDS OF THE CRETE PUBLIC LIBRARY:

The Friends of the Crete Public Library District (501 C 3 not for profit organization) provide ongoing support for collection development and programming.  Their Annual Book Sale and their ongoing Book Sale Cart annually supply funds for the adult and children’s summer reading programs.
The Friends meet once a month on the fourth Tuesday August through May.
