Currently, the library has 10
computers available for public use with a variety of software for both
personal and Internet use. Two are reserved for SWAN (System-Wide Area
Network), the library’s (and the Metropolitan Library System’s)
web-based card catalog, and another for the library’s online databases.
Two additional computers are available exclusively for the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access,
and PowerPoint) and MicrosoftWorks.
All Crete library card holders
in good standing can logon to one of the library’s ten Internet
computers with the barcode number on the back of their
library card. Each card holder is limited to 2 hours of Internet use per
day, and users must use their own library card. Use of another family
member’s card or that of a friend for additional time may result in loss
of Internet privileges altogether. Children under 18 must have a signed
parental permission form to use the Internet, and those under 11 are
required to use the Internet in the Children’s Department. During busy
periods, patrons can sign up for the next available computer. Ask at the
Reference desk for more information.
For those who do not have a
Crete library card, the library has a 15 minute computer available for
anyone to use. Ask at the Reference Desk about this service, as a staff
member needs to sign the user onto this computer.
All computers are able to print
through the library’s printing system. Copies are $0.10/page. See the
Reference Desk for instructions on printing or look for the instruction
sheet near the computer terminals.
