2 Game Computers

We have over 100 computer games available for your children to play here at the library.  There is an hour time limit and a two game limit for each child using the computers.  Many of these games are learning aids in math, reading and logic.

 Board Books

These books are for the very youngest child with minimal text and simple bright pictures.

 Picture Books

Picture books are meant to be read to young children or read by children who are learning to read.

 Readers

For children learning to read up to about the third grade.  These books have larger print, some a controlled vocabulary and in some cases a vocabulary list.

 Fiction

Novels and short stories for children in approximately third to eighth grade.  Books are arranged by the author’s last name.  Large paperback series are arranged together on a separately marked shelf.

 Non Fiction

Books for every age in a full range of subject arranged by the Dewey Decimal Classification System.  This collection also includes creative literature such as poetry, drama, and folk tales and nursery rhymes.

 Poetry Bins

Rub-A-Dub-Dub: Some Poems in a Tub: This poetry project was made possible through a Library Services & Technology Act Grant and the Illinois State Library.  Ten Poetry and Folktale theme-based kits in tubs are available for checkout.  Each tub contains 25 - 30 books, audio-visual materials and props, including puppets, flannel board figures and magnetic poetry kits. Flexible loan periods are available.  Call 3 days in advance, so tubs can be assembled.

 Parenting Shelf

A collection of adult books that deal with issues of concern to parents such as toilet training, discipline, home schooling and numerous other topics.

 DVD’s and Videos

Located directly across from the parent shelf, we have numerous video’s and DVD’s available for children’s viewing and family viewing.

 Book/Cassette Kits

Cassette recordings accompany easy fiction and non-fiction books, offering an enjoyable full-text reading of favorite titles.

 Audio Books

Books on either CD or cassette of some of the most popular fiction in past years.

 Magazines

There are presently 19 different magazines including several of interest to parents available in the Children’s Department.  The current issues are in binders and not available to checkout, but back issues may be checked out for two weeks.  The past year issues are located by lifting the shelf where the current issue sits.  Further back issues are kept for the past four years and are located in boxes on shelves at the end of the shelving units.

 Reference Books

Encyclopedias, indexes, almanacs, and a variety of books on many subjects needed for school assignments and personal interests.  A librarian is always on duty to help locate information, either from the reference collection or from the other materials in the library.

 Homework Shelf

As the schools notify us of current assignments, we will place on the shelf books pertaining to said assignment that will be for in house use only.  This insures that all students will have information available for the assignment.

 Puzzle and Play area

Puzzle, games and toys that help develop the fine motor and discriminatory skills need to learn to read are available for use in the library.
