Recycling @ the Library
The library provides the community with a safe and easy place to recycle certain items. At this time the library accepts the following items for recycling:
These items can be dropped off at the Patron Services desk.
Please note, while the library has accepted batteries in the past, we can no longer provide this service. The Crete Lions Club Recycling Center will accept batteries and several other recycling items. Please call the Center for more information.
Crete Lions Club Recycling Center
1215 Douglas Lane, Crete, IL
Open Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; Saturday: 7 a.m. to noon.
The library tries to offer electronics recycling events several times throughout the year. These events are held on specific days and provide the community with a place to bring old electronics. Please read the Electronics Recycling List carefully, as we cannot accept everything. This service is provided by E Scrap Technologies. The library will not take electronics recycling items on any other dates.
Electronics Recycling Dates: Due to anticipated construction, the library will not have an electronic recycling event in spring 2018.
The Will County government also provides limited electronics recycling at various locations throughout the county, as noted on the Will County Green website.
The library also offers occasional shredding events, usually one in the spring and one in the fall, as well as a small, secured shredding box in the lobby throughout the year. The events are held on specific days and provide the community with a place to bring larger amounts of materials to be shredded. Some restrictions apply (limited to five boxes per car and no 3-ring binders). The box in the lobby is intended for smaller amounts of shredding, and once it is full, the library cannot accept additional materials for shredding until the box is emptied by our service.
Shredding Event Dates: Due to anticipated construction, the library does not have any shredding events planned at this time. However, the Will County Land Use Dept. is hosting a document shredding event on May 21 at the University of St. Francis in Joliet. Click here for more information.
